I’ve posted about it before… I’ll post about it again. Texting and driving is a bad idea. Here is an email I recieved from a dear friend of mine, Lily.
Hi Everyone,
I wanted to pass along a news link regarding texting and driving/ driving while distracted. I can’t count the number of times I have reached for my phone or tried to fiddle with it while I was driving. I have also not opposed to being a passenger while the driver answered emails or text messages.
For those of you who don’t know- Chris Cooper, was a great guy who I use to work with. He was involved in a fatal two car accident in Seguin Texas four days after Christmas. Chris was killed on impact, the last thing he did was swerve hard enough saving his wife Kristin’s life.
DPS conducted a thorough investigation of the accident and concluded the driver of the other vehicle that caused was a 18 year old female, Sabrina Chapman. Sabrina had just purchased a Jeep and was following behind her family on highway 123. As a result of texting, she became distracted and almost hit a guardrail-she over corrected causing her to cross three lanes of traffic. Sabrina slammed into Chris’ Honda CRV, she didn’t even have time to brake, as DPS noted there were no skid marks on the scene. She was not wearing a seat beat and was ejected from her Jeep. She died on the scene.
Chris and his wife Kristin were on their way to Dallas as his sister was in labor with her first child. Chris was a husband, father and simply a great guy. I hate to deliver such tragic news, but I hope you will pledge today to not drive while distracted. Click here for a link to the interview that Kristin gave our local news station.
