Goals for This Month:
1.) Take the GRE (Done!)
2.) Apply for Grad School (Did it last week)
3.) Send Transcripts over to Texas State (The faxes are sitting on my desk!)
4.) Hang out with mom!
5.) Go to the Texas Reds Festival (Maybe?)
So after about two months of freaking out for the GRE, I finally took it. I’ve committed about the past five Sundays (and sacrificed many brunches) to three hour prep classes, because I’m really out of the testing mental game. And four hours of cognitive load? Jesus Christ. Abbey had me a little freaked about the testing center. I didn’t think it was so bad.
They are pretty serious about this test. I had to write, IN CURSIVE, a vow that I would not talk about the test material. Jesus, was that a trick?! Who writes in cursive anymore! Then I had to take my photograph with a webcam (some of these tests require a fingerprint!) and be assigned a seat.Right next to the door.FML.They told me never to sit there.Oh, but they did not tell me about these awesome sound deafening earphones that proceeded to hurt in the third hour…I get my scores and I’m thrilled with them. 250 points above what I’ve been making on the practice tests and within a 60-70 point range of the “preferred” GRE scores in the Texas State Program I’m looking at. I’d say that’s pretty good; considering I do monkey work with no math and had a very untechnical undergrad. Hopefully I will not have to retake it.
I promptly called the necessary individuals and made Daisy go out with me to celebrate. A chocolatini and chicken wings. Yup, it must be Mer. I will still need some luck to get into the department I want… It’s kind of a reach for someone with my background. Here’s hoping!
