Okay, so anyone who knows me, knows that I pretty much hate V-day. I think it’s stupid, I think it’s cheesy, it makes me uncomfortable. I have a very, very, very cynical look towards it, probably starting with watching “Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown” over and over as a child, and then a row of embarrassing left-outs or mistakes that have been repeated by men… Although I sure get a great sympathy kick out of the “Cow Shaped Butter Dish” story.
Anyway, this year, I’m taken for Vday. I’m taking this opportunity to once again make fun of the grandpa sweater he wore last night out with some friends.
Yeah, yeah, we both think it’s kind of silly, but manfriend wants to take me to the Oasis on Lake Travis. It’s supposed to have like this great view, or something, and we have to get there before 5 or there’s no way we’re getting a table.
Anyway, despite his interesting wardrobe, he’s kind of high maintenance. He has to eat a lot, or often, because of his working out or something. I don’t really know. What I do know, is that I can’t just give him a tray of brownies with the beer I usually get guys for V-day (or as we’re calling, “Less Than 3” day (<3, get it?) (thank you, email subject line from thinkgeek.com), because he’ll look at me like I’m trying to totally sabotage him. So here’s the recipe I found online at Cathe.com (the woman I’ve yelled at so many times for her to stop torturing me as I work out in my room with weights watching her on FitTV) (she wins again, these smell pretty darn good).
Brownie Date Bars – Gluten Free
Submitted by: jdimascio
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Extra Time: refrigerate – 1 hour
Ready In: 1 hour 15 minutes
Serves/Makes: 6
1.5 Cups of Pitted Dates (I used organic)
1/4 cup of Hemp Chocolate Protein Powder (I used Trader Joes)
1/4 cup of Raw Cacao Powder ( I used organic)
1/2 cup almonds
32 Bittersweet Chocolate Chips
Directions:
In a food processor, mix in dates.
[Okay, so, I couldn’t find just a bag of pitted dates. I had to get the chopped, dry dates which miiiiight have some extra sugar than the original post intended. Sorry, Cathe]. Once they are well processed add hemp protein and raw cacao. Once those ingredients are mixed in, remove them from the food processor.
Add Almonds to the food processor and just have them chopped up. Add the Chocolate chips to the almond mix. After they are chopped up with the almonds, add the date mix and run the processor.
If I was worth a damn as a culinary photographer.
Once everything is integrated, remove. Place on Wax paper. Cover with wax paper and roll out until the brownie date mix is about 1/4 inch thick. Try to form into a square or rectangle [if, by try, you mean “press all ingredients within wax paper inside a loaf pan because you’re a lazyness like me]. Cut into 6 servings. Refrigerate.
My finished product. I guess I could have pressed them into little heart shapes but… Yeah that’s not really our style. Plus, he’ll probably be carrying these around campus this week, and I couldn’t possibly embarrass him any more after wallet-whipping his face last night for groping me at the bar. I’m the best womanfriend ever.
