Today’s Mantra: “Anybody can be a runner. We were meant to move. We were meant to run. It’s the easiest sport.” –Bill Rodgers
Before run: So begins official week two, another five minutes onto the initial schedule. As always, I am completely thrilled to get a great start on all of that this afternoon. But I am thankful it is not raining, and I’m going to try to beat the sun down, because, well, I learned the hard way what happens in this weather if you don’t.
My favorite running quote lately from Cheryl: “Stupid wall – I wish it were foam”.
Oh.
So true.
After run: Well, let’s recap, shall we? I can’t remember the last time I ran distance, outside, on concrete, in bounce shoes. I forgot how intimidating it was when I didn’t have the comfort of a treadmill telling me when to run or slow down, or when I didn’t have a track to sprint down, and walk on the curves. And just mentally how much longer that sidewalk looks than your stupid strides where you aren’t lifting your knees high enough because you’ve been up since 6 in the morning and slept on the couch. Halfway through, I’m blaming this on Monday. Then I’m blaming it on having to retrain my knees to these concrete shoes and not cross trainers. 2/3rds of the way through I realize I’ve lost my sunglasses, and I have to backtrack somewhere in the area of half a mile to look for them. Yup, not going to be my best run.
I finally get back to my car within a minute or two of my goal for the night. And what do you know, a new personal best?! I guess that means Lance Armstrong’s voice is every other run. Personal bests on three of the [previously thought] worst runs ever – how could it be, again! I immediately start jumping up and down outside my car by the park. I must have looked like an idiot 🙂
