I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about tattoos lately…
I was (for some reason) getting the tattoo on my shoulder removed in 2009, probably a preemptive move on my part because I was going through a lot, partially because I felt it wasn’t a great tattoo. Too simple. Too elementary. Too juvenile. So I stopped getting it removed.
Okay, Apparently I’m also allergic to neosporin and the healing process was totally tearing up my skin. And, well, I’m an adult now, and I want to step forward and take the big step to a big-girl tattoo. One that signifies strength, beauty, independence, a free-ish spirit, and a unique sense.
A unicorn. That seems to fit those. Actually, a ‘Texicorn’ – a unicorn with a state of Texas reference on it, ‘My Little Pony’ style. Texan tattoos always seem to be so redneck.
And how about some magnolia flowers – a nod to the magnolia tree we used to climb in our front yard, growing up? I never went as high as my sis up that tree… But I still remember spending lots of time there.
Sprinkle in a key point to life (and maybe a key [I love keys] [Don’t know why]…)
Anyway, this is just a mock-up in Photoshop, because drawing it by hand was looking a bit ridiculous. The unicorn will be the darkest, the boldest, along with the key principle. The flowers will add some pink color, and the elegant scrolling will be in a lighter gray… To not totally go crazy.
I will probably go through several mock-ups, and will definitely be welcoming the advice of my tattoo artist who will need to redraw this…
